Long time no blog...

So it has been awhile...a long while.

For those of you who started following me under the pretense that I am an active book reviewer, please forgive me for my absence. Life has been chaotic as of late. Please hold on...in a few weeks, I hope to return in full force!

For those of you who follow so you can stay up to date on what I'm doing with my life, I also apologize. Hopefully this post will provide a sufficient update.

This morning I woke up with the sun beating through my window, the sound of the fan whirring, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee wafting into my room. It was perfection. I laid in bed for an extra couple of minutes (or hour) just letting life play through in my mind.

Roommate Cousin and I had an uncharacteristically busy winter/spring. Two years ago, we spent every night at a coffee shop as she studied for the CPA and I busily worked on my novel, which is still not finished. Though, I am still writing it. Just not quite with as much fervor as before. However, life changes are a foot and hopefully that will allow for that extra time I need to devote myself to my writing (and blogging).

In just three short weeks, I will be done nannying for the summer. This is, as always, extremely bittersweet. I don't love waking up early, working long days, and spending two hours commuting. But I do love the little girl I take care of. I love dancing around the living room singing Selena Gomez, I Love You Like a Love Song. And the sound of her sweet voice as she sings along to May the Lord Bless You and Keep You each day as I put her down for nap. I love her questions. I love asking her questions, "Layla, why is the sky blue?" To which she responds, "Because it is blue." "Layla, why do fish swim in the ocean?" "Because they swim." I love how simple the world is in her mind and letting myself experience it the same way. She has been a true blessing to my life.

Aside from my busy job, evenings have been equally busy. A multitude of new people have come in and out of my life in the past few months. With them have come some wonderful stories that even once they have disappeared, their stories will always remain. Late nights, sleep overs and a few too many visits to the same coffee shop -- it was like I was back in college again.

Roommate Cousin and I had the pleasure of having a third roommate for a couple of months. Despite the tiny size of our Chicago apartment, it was great having one more person to hang out with in the evenings. The three of us (JEN) have really experienced a lot together this winter/spring season. Specifically a lot pertaining to boys. And aren't all of the best stories always related to boy drama!? We have accumulated our fair share, some good and some bad.

The three of us went on a month long cleanse that lasted a week. When you live in Chicago and are surrounded by wonderful places to eat, a cleanse is really difficult. Especially when all you really want to eat is Chinese food or Pad Thai.

We made a few road trips. Our most exciting was to Kentucky for the Derby. Equipped with our large hats and summer dresses, we made our way to the craziness of the Derby. And no...it is not all flowery hats, posh conversation, and tiny spectacle binoculars. That is for the people with money. But we tried our hand at pretending. And for a little while we felt like socialites.

I bought a new (old) bike, which I actually ride. I cut my hair short and wondered after why I ever wanted to have long hair. I was able to spend time with my Lil Sis who will be greatly missed as she is on to the next great adventure!

For us here in Chicago, summer has just begun. And if the winter was full of excitement, I can only imagine what adventures the summer is about to bring. Stay tuned. Hopefully these blog posts won't be so few and far between. Hopefully I will actually review all of the wonderful books I read. And also provide more updates on the craziness of my life.

Life is changing. Discover where it brings me.
