A Final Day Starts New Beginnings

That's my long, long sigh. These past few weeks have been exhausting as only periods of change can be. Obviously, I haven't had any time to blog. I haven't really had much time for anything. I haven't cleaned, washed the dishes, written, or styled my hair for about three weeks now. It is not that I've been busy. It is that I've been transitioning.

Today, I ended my three year career as the nanny to a precious little girl. Three years ago, I graduated from college. A business major with a big question mark looming in my face, I settled into post-grad life in Chicago. I lived (and still do) in a tiny little city apartment neighboring the el. I had little savings. And a very confused jumble of emotions.

I dragged my way through the lake of open nanny positions that an ocean of nannies were trying to get. Eventually, after going for a run (yeah, I used to run--who was I?), I returned home to a beautiful voice message on my old slider phone. It said that this family, my family, wanted me to be their nanny! And now three years later, I have ended my last day with a mixture of laughter and tears.

The little girl I cared for is known as Baby, Bestie, and most commonly, Layla ( or as she says, yay-ya). She is a spitfire. Three going on thirteen going on thirty, she kept me on my toes. I would be lying if I said that I loved every minute of it. Some minutes were long, others were hard, others annoying, but most were beautiful. I am telling the truth when I say that I will miss them all. They were all rewarding.

As I explained to Layla, I am ending my time as her nanny, not as her friend. I told her I have to move on so that I can go finish my future best-selling YA novel. And as she says, she can't wait to be in my wedding party (I kindly told her that she may or may not be waiting quite a while for that dream to come true). Regardless, I know that she will be a part of my life forever.

I don't completely know what my future will look like, but I do hope it includes lots of the following: writing, reading, blogging, biking, juicing, exploring, beaching, and dreaming.
