Bridal Shower Weekend

This past weekend, my family gathered together to celebrate the future nuptials of my sister Jessica to my future bro-in-law Taylor. We celebrated in the form of a bridal shower complete with a vintage travel theme, mimosa bar, delicious desserts, and lots and lots and lots of laughter.

Preparations for the shower began back in January when I sat down with my Aunt Linda and sister Aimee over sandwiches and coffee. We laid the framework. I tossed around ambitious ideas of baguettes with lavender sprigs and wedding dress shaped sugar cookies. A plan was drawn up for what to make, how to decorate, and who was on the guest list.

Then a month transpired and before we knew it, the shower was upon us.

I'm so thrilled with how it turned out. Sure the food was perfection - there were mini crostinis, grandmother's brownies, and perfectly skewered fruit. The decorations were divine - maps, globes, antiques and fresh flowers. And the mimosas were an excellent touch - thank you very much. But, the real highlight had nothing to do with the work we did. The real highlight was the people who came together to celebrate. The people who drove on icy roads, left behind their children, and made a space in their busy schedules to be there.

It was a splendid way to celebrate Jessica. But also a wonderful weekend to celebrate family. It is always such a treat to be surrounded by the forever people of your life. People who are there to stay. I'm so grateful for my family and the joy they continuously bestow upon my life.

And I'm so grateful that this celebration was held because our family is gaining one more forever person.

I can't wait for May 23rd!!
