Up and Coming

Fall is a season for ankle boots, Bon Iver records, pumpkin spiced whatnots, and Meg Ryan romcoms. It is a season designed for preparing ourselves for the cold, hard winter. And we do so grandly. Where as we survived the summer on watermelon, bikinis, and iced bevvies, in the fall, we pamper ourselves with apple crisps, new wool socks, and gords.

This fall, I'm knitting a blanket.

This fall, I'm recommitting myself to writing.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We've all said it. I've said it beyond a dozen times. And there were points in the past when I followed through. Those were the good times. And then there were times when I said I would write and instead I devoured six seasons of Sons of Anarchy, five seasons of White Collar, fives seasons of Parks and Rec, two seasons of Friday Night Lights, and three seasons of Scandal. Those were, well, they were also good times. Just happened to serve zero purpose in furthering my life.

I'm excited. I just have to remind myself that writing is the better choice than deciding to get into Breaking Bad.

I have the month of October to get started. The real date of complete devotion is Nov 1 when National Novel Writing Month begins. And you can bet I'll be participating. All you writers out there better be with me!

In Ernest related news. He was featured in his very first published article! So very exciting. Of course the magazine is in Dutch, so I don't actually know what it says. Regardless, it is wonderful! The magazine itself is exquisite. Even if I can't read it, the feel of the pages is enough to sell me. Visit Flow Magazine to discover more about this beautiful publication.

Also, I have lofty goals to finally write Ernest's book - the tale of a hog and his imaginative adventures. Oh it is going to be too adorable. And as I am currently living with a toddler who loves reading books, I have many cadences and rhythms in mind for my very own story book.

Since I'll be blogging daily for the month of October as part of the Write 31 Days challenge, I'll have a lot of time to hold myself accountable.

Fingers crossed, well, uncrossed as it is very difficult to type with crossed fingers. But...hopes held high. This is my month for restartdom (that's not a word).

xoxo

  1. That hedgehog may have just stolen my heart. I have four kids and love children's books for my own sake as well, and if/when you write your book about Ernest, I would totally pick up a copy of it. Especially if it included your photography--quirky and compelling!

  3. I'm really happy I found your blog via our Dutch Flow Magazine! Your story reminds me a lot about myself, except that I don't have a hedgehog, but two cats and a dog. Since I have finished my education and after having several jobs I started working as a nanny to. Your blog inspires me to pick up writing again. I love the pictures of Ernest. Hopefully his book will become a bestseller. Greatings from Holland!
